Rony
9 - 10 years

Rony has come to Wiccs from our Romanian rescue partners, Romanian Underdogs.
Rony is a charming older chap who was found fending for himself on the streets. He was taken to the dog shelter where he stayed for many years. When I first met him in Brasov, Romania last year he was quiet and a bit worried, but he had a kind face and was grateful of the attention he received. He thought a stroke and a rub was wonderful. Simple pleasures to a chap who has had nothing. Rony doesn't have a chance with the European rescues because he is deemed old. We tucked him up in a new coat to help him survive the winters sub-zero temperatures until he was ready to travel.

Rony is a charming chap who doesn't ask for much. He is grateful for whatever you can spare. He couldn't believe his luck when he stretched his legs on our fields for the first time - and discovering cow pooh was a bonus!! Rony travels well and is the proud owner of a pet passport.

Max
12 - 18 months

Max has come to Wiccs from our Romanian rescue partners, Romanian Underdogs.
Max is a big bear of a boy who has had an incredibly hard life so far When I first met him in Brasov, Romania last year Max had literally been bought in after being found living rough on the streets. He had a badly injured front leg that just flopped about and as he walked it was dragging along causing a large open wound. Max was immediately taken in for surgery and his leg was amputated. Despite the obvious and incredible pain Max was in, his spirit and wonderfully kind and loving nature shone through. He never once complained about his lot in life and was grateful for any kindness he was shown. He lived on a chain attached to a wooden kennel in freezing temperatures, but he always happy. We were there while his op was carried out, and we helped him with his recovery. He was extremely brave and literally trusted us with his life. Max wasn't wanted by the European rescues because he is a three legged dog. We tucked him up in a new coat to help Max recover and to survive the winters sub-zero temperatures until he was ready to travel.

Max is a big teddy bear of a dog, you just want to squish him and he would quite like that. He is fabulous with other dogs and is just the happiest, uncomplicated boy. What you see is what you get. Max travels well and is the proud owner of a pet passport.

Ronnie
2 years

Ronnie has come to Wiccs from our Romanian rescue partners, Romanian Underdogs. Ronnie is a very friendly boy who has had a hard life, much of it spent behind bars in a Romanian dog shelter after being saved from a dog killing station where the other dogs would beat him up while the workers watched. When I first met Ronnie in Brasov, Romania last year, he was living on a chain attached to a wooden kennel in freezing temperatures, but he always happy and and a lovely greeting for everyone passing by - unless you had a camera, then he would strike a pose with a serious face! Ronnie was looked over by the European rescues because he wasn't pretty enough. We tucked him up in a new coat to help him survive the winters sub-zero temperatures until he was ready to travel.

Ronnie is such a happy boy who travels well and is the proud owner of a pet passport.
He is good with other dogs and with cats

Buttons
12 - 18 months

Buttons has come to Wiccs from Cherwell Valley Dog Warden. He was found as a stray, after being hit by a couple of cars.

Buttons is gorgeous!! He is a lovely, friendly chap who is great with other dogs. He would love a family who would love him back and keep him safe.

Colin
18 months

Colin has come to Wiccs from Hyndburn Stray Dogs in Need, Rochdale. He was found as a stray.

Colin is very friendly and playful, he wants to please. He is good with other dogs and he travels well. Colin does need to be kept occupied and have his brain stimulated, or he will get himself in trouble. He's not a collie who can really think for himself that well, he needs to be told what to do - then he is fab. Someone in the past somewhere has put some work into him as he has a fab sit and a very fast down when told - straight down, no messing. Colin is always poised ready for action!

Rex
4/5 years

Rex was returned to Wiccs after being in his home for several months.

Rex is a very sensitive chap. He doesn't like to mauled or molly coddled. He likes being Rex, and just being a dog. If you are looking for a lovely gentleman who will take sedate walks with you, who will rest his head on your knee for a stroke and will just be there for you as a devoted companion, then Rex is your man. If you are looking for a dog who you can hug and cuddle and maul, then Rex isn't for you. He doesn't like that amount of physical contact and can't cope with it. Rex travels well, he is calm and sensible with other dogs and is a firm favourite with all the Wiccs volunteer dog walkers.

George

George has come to Wiccs from our volunteers in Eire.

George is a lovely very sweet nervous little boy. New people scare him so he will need a very, very patient home. He's great with other dogs and his loves his walks. Gorgeous George!

Jack
2 years

Jack has come back to us from his family. He was adopted as an 8 week old pup - regular website visitors will remember Mischa and her babies. Jack's family now have a young baby in the house and have decided they can't give him the time and attention a young and very active collie needs.

Jack is a lovely lad. He is very good with other dogs and he travels well. Jack is a very sensitive lad. He wants someone to look after him, however he can have quite a strong protective instinct if he doesn't feel that his person is capable, so whoever takes him on has to be prepared for that. If he doesn't see you as a shepherd - you become a sheep and need looking after - and that isn't a job that Jack really wants to take on.

Jack has a good level of training and obedience and is very well behaved. He needs very special people to appreciate what a special, lovely lad he is.

Adult only home for Jack please.

Russell
2 - 3 years

Russell came over to us in November 2010 from our volunteers in Eire, along with Roxy. They'd never been really touched by humans until our Irish folks rescued them and they came to us. They'd spent their lives shut up with no real human contact.

When they arrived in November, they were so sad and scared it broke our hearts. They never snapped or anything like that. They wanted to be loved, but couldn't bring themselves to let you "in". If you even so much as looked at them, they would panic and wet themselves. We knew it was time, space and patience they needed. For a long time they were both completely shut down.

Everything since November has been based on 'hands off' and 'trust'.

At the beginning of February 2011, the first real steps forward appeared. Instead of hiding their faces when we walked in, Roxy started to come to the front of her bed, wagging her tail, Russell slowly following suit. When we let them out, they would race around with the other dogs properly, starting to interact with them, and they would come when called to go back in - as long as we gave them space to pass. Still all done 'hands off and with trust'.

Then the little cheeky signs started to appear. When they thought we weren't looking they would sneak up behind us - usually with another dog for support to check us out properly with a good sniffing and little nose pokes, tails wagging. Those are the hard times for us, when at first we have to resist the temptation to look round at them, put our hands out and make contact. After a few days of 'poking', the day came, when without lookingback, a hand went down to give a stroke. A little jump back, but the fuss was received and the hand was poked and snuffled.

Since then, they are both coming on. A couple of months furth on, Roxy & Russell took their biggest steps yet. They accepted a lead and collar and have discovered walkies!!! Walks were quite a scatty experience at first, but they love it and their little faces are a picture.

The little game of 'poking' has turned into a run up, poke in the knee and run round in front of us, smiling - "it was me!!!" Its like a doggy kiss chase.

They both still automatically flinch if you move to quickly, but instead of shutting down now,
they seem to take a deep breath and start again.

Both Roxy & Russell have walked close to our horses with no issues, basically ignoring them. They are great with other dogs.

Roxy & Russell are wonderful, beautiful dogs who need a very patient home who will understand they will take a bit of time to get there - but when they do they will be the most perfect and loyal friends you could wish for. They just need someone to love them like we do.

Jan 2012 - Russell & Roxy continue to take huge steps forward. They are now blossoming individually and are more than happy to be confidently apart from each other, as long as they have another doggy friend around. As such, providing any potential home had an exisiting dog already at home, they are now at a point where they could happily be rehomed separately.

Top right pic taken in Eire as Roxy & Russell were rescued.
New pics of them out of their 3rd proper walkies at Wiccs.

Sam - REHOMED
18 months

Sam has come to us from our Eire volunteers
.

Sam is a wonderful friendly boy. He is very sweet, he just sits and gazes up at you as you give him a fuss. At the moment he is underweight and his coat is that of a dog who has lived outside all his life. Sam is just a lovely, lovely boy who will be stunning when he's up to weight and his coat is glossy.

Pic top left taken in Eire as he was bought into rescue. New pics below.

Snogging with Polly!!
