2008 WALKS

MARCH

ESSEX WALK

Date: Saturday 15th March 2008

Venue: Hockley Woods, Main Road, Hockley, Essex

Directions: J29 M25, take A127 towards Southend. After 20ish miles take A129 to Rayleigh. Follow road through Rayleigh and following signs for B1013 to Hockley. Coming out of Rayleigh you will go over two mini roundabouts, up a hill follow road and you will see The Bull PH on your right. Turning for the woods is immediately after the pub.

Start time & Meeting Point: 10am in the car park

Parking Availability: Plenty of free parking, however on a sunny day this does fill up, so would suggest not being late.

Walk Description: Approx 2 1/2 hrs long and not suitable for anything with wheels. There is no livestock on this route. There are however loads and loads of squirrels. We may come across horses on the bridal paths, but we are not walking on them just crossing over.

Facilites: Toilets are available at the car park. There is a pub next to the car park which has a dog friendly area outside should the weather be kind to us and you wish to have lunch/refreshments after the walk. They normally have plenty of water containers around for the dogs, which you can refill from an outside tap.

OXFORDSHIRE WALK

Date: Sunday 13th April 2008

Venue: Buscot Weir - Kelmscot and back.

Directions: Buscott is a tiny village with only one road through, this is not hard to find

Start Time & Meeting Point: 11am at the car park

Parking Availability: Free of charge carpark by Weir - plenty of room

Walk Description:
This walk starts on lead and crosses the Weir at Buscot before heading off along the Thames path. Here the dogs can be let off lead providing the farmer has not put livestock into the fields. You walk all the way along the path to a gate at the far end and turn left (back on lead here) to walk through the tiny village of Kelmscott and head back through some fields to rejoin the Thames Path and head back to the start. Lots of places for dogs to swim and paddle as they please, basically a straight there and back route with a little loop at one end. If the weather is nice there is a big field which is lovely for picnics and again the dogs/people can paddle. In the summer it is used a lot for swimming by locals.

Duration: Approx 1.5-2 hours walking.

Hazards: Flat land, can be muddy and slippy depending on weather. As memory serves, wheelchair access should be ok, if a little bumpy at times, think all the stiles had been converted to gates on the route we are planning.
